Cherokee Heritage Center Information

The Cherokee Heritage center is less than 2 miles and provides many educational experiences throughout the year. The largest celebration is on Labor Day weekend when the Cherokee National Holiday is celebrated with a variety of activities including pow-wows, crafts, demonstrations, a parade, kids games, arts and crafts booths, etc.

This historical home was built in 1845 and is located 2 miles from the park. Seasonal interactive demonstrations and living history presentations make this a must see!

ILLINOIS RIVER FLOATING
The three most popular ways to float the river are canoe, kayak or raft. The river is rated as Class II, and is a gently-flowing waterway with few hazards and a moderately paced current, so it’s accessible to most river-goers. An outfitter can help you with the equipment you need for a trip down the great Illinois, including life vests. Outfitters will transport riders to a drop-off point, then the riders will float back to the camp or to a pick-up point at a predetermined distance.
